In 2010, Abire Ogaga and Abire David founded the Greater Kingdom Impact Foundation to motivate others to do well academically by offering financial rewards to bright student members of the Church of Christ at the University of Benin, Edo State. The first financial incentive was N10,000 for the 100-level student with the highest GPA.

By the end of the 2009/2010 academic session, Edidiong Effiong from the School of Medicine and Surgery became the first to receive N10,000 for having an impressive GPA of 4.83. Others, such as Okpokpa Philemon and Akpughe Ogaga (both of whom have served the organisation as excos in recent years), with GPAs of 4.55 and 4.30, respectively, also received recognition.

During the 2010/2011 session, Mokobia Dorcas topped the list with a GPA of 4.63, beating both her classmates and earning the title of the best 100-level student in the Department of Accounting and the Faculty of Management Science. She received N10,000 and plenty of praise. The results for the 2011/2012 session weren’t as remarkable. Still, after careful screening, Akpoguma David from the Department of Physics was awarded N10,000 for his GPA of 4.21. In the 2012/2013 session, Etinosa Precious from the Department of Civil Engineering, also at the 100 level, stood out with a GPA of 4.76. Several other students like Ojagun Nedin, Akpoguma David, Emmanuel Attat, and Akpughe Akpobome, all at 100 or 200 levels, also earned recognition for their GPAs above 4.0.

In 2013, there were some issues with how the results from the previous year's students were reviewed, which led to the need for a better way to organize and achieve the goals of the initiative. Eric Okomado was tasked with developing this new structure. They decided to name it the "Christian Students for Excellence Initiative," and over time, they expanded it to include all students who were doing well and wanted to be part of its mission. The support is now extended to students in 200, 300, and 400 levels, as well as graduates. The plan was also to cover all the higher institutions in Nigeria where the Church of Christ was present.

By the end of 2014, with input from students, it became clear that the initiative should go beyond supporting students in school. It should include other programs that could benefit the students and the church as a whole. That's how the name changed to the "Greater Kingdom Impact Foundation," and new programs were added to make a bigger difference.

The first annual meeting of the Foundation was held on January 16, 2016, in the Faculty of Engineering Board Room at the University of Benin, Edo State. The event was very successful. Since then, many students have received support from the Foundation, and several have graduated with top honours from universities in the areas where the Foundation operates.
